Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD)

Allows a variety of materials to be presented for laser ablation without breaking vacuum. The planetary-action target carousel holds up to 6 targets, with computer control for depositing multi-layer films using different materials. A water (or LN2) cooled baffle protects the mechanism and the other targets from over-spray or stray deposition during processing. Made using 100% UHV-compatible materials, the MTS PLD carousel can be used in any environment. More information

Virtual-Axis Tilt & XY Manipulator

This 3-axis custom manipulator has ±0.5" XY travel and ±5° of virtual tilt allowing eucentric motion at the sample which cam be 12-40" (300-1000 mm) below the actual manipulator. All axes can be stepper motorized, with encoders, and the entire mechanism is mounted on 6" (CF100) or larger flange.

XY-Tilt

Motorized XY Manipulator w/ Tilt

This 4-axis custom manipulator has ±0.5" XY travel and ±5° of tilt in 2 axes and a clear bore of 12" (300 mm). All axes are stepper motorized, with encoders, and the entire mechanism is mounted on 14" (CF300) flanges.

Transferable Substrate w/ Laser Heating

A custom transferable substrate holder for high temperature deposition with 0-25 RPM rotation and laser heating to 1100°C in oxygen. The laser heats the substrate from behind, while the sample exchange is effected using only a low-cost magnetically-coupled transfer arm. Thermally stable, non-reactive materials were used extensively.
Laser Heated Sample
Interface The substrate holder is introduced from the load lock and held in place via Twist-N-Lock engagement, and is removed by the same mechanism. This hand-off mechanism has proven to be very reliable.
